Salary Calculator UAE: How Much Will You Actually Take Home?
Use our free UAE salary calculator to find out your exact take-home pay. Includes how gratuity works, what deductions apply to UAE employees, and how to compare salaries across countries.
Understanding Your UAE Salary Package
If you have just received a job offer in the UAE — or are comparing salary packages across countries — you need to understand that UAE compensation works very differently from the US, UK, or Europe. There is no income tax, but there are other factors that dramatically affect your real take-home pay.
This guide explains every component of a UAE salary, how to calculate your true take-home amount, and how UAE compensation compares globally.
The UAE Tax Advantage — What It Actually Means
The UAE has zero personal income tax. This is the single biggest financial advantage of working in the UAE, and it is significant.
Example comparison:
A $100,000 annual salary:
This is why a AED 25,000/month salary in Dubai is genuinely equivalent to a $100,000+ salary in many US or UK cities after tax.
Components of a UAE Salary Package
Most UAE salary packages include several components beyond basic salary:
Basic Salary Typically 40-60% of total package. Critical because gratuity (end of service benefit) is calculated on basic salary only. A higher basic means higher gratuity.
Housing Allowance Usually 20-30% of basic salary. Covers rent. Some companies provide accommodation directly instead.
Transport Allowance AED 1,000-2,000/month typically. Covers commuting costs.
Other Allowances
Total Compensation vs. Basic Salary Always clarify: is the quoted figure your basic salary or total compensation? A AED 20,000 basic with allowances could total AED 28,000-35,000/month.
How UAE Gratuity Works
End of Service Gratuity (EOSB) is one of the most important — and most misunderstood — aspects of UAE employment.
Under the new UAE Labour Law (2022):
For unlimited and limited contracts:
Example calculation:
Basic salary: AED 15,000/month Daily rate: AED 15,000 ÷ 30 = AED 500/day
After 3 years (under 5 years):
After 7 years:
Important caveats:
DEWS — The New UAE Pension Alternative
For private sector workers, the DIFC Employee Workplace Savings (DEWS) scheme launched in February 2020 as an alternative to the gratuity system. Some UAE free zones now use similar savings schemes.
Under DEWS:
If your employer offers DEWS, you should receive monthly statements. This is a significantly better deal than traditional gratuity as the funds grow with investment returns.

Negotiating Your UAE Salary
1. Negotiate basic salary higher Since gratuity is calculated on basic salary, a higher basic (even with lower allowances) means more end-of-service benefit.
2. Get medical insurance clarity UAE law requires employers to provide medical insurance. Ask what is covered — basic plans exclude pre-existing conditions. Premium plans cost AED 3,000-8,000/year per person.
3. Annual flight tickets Many companies provide annual return flights to home country. For a family of 4, this can be worth AED 8,000-20,000/year.
4. School fees International school fees in Dubai and Abu Dhabi range from AED 30,000-100,000+ per child per year. If you have children, education allowance or direct payment by employer is extremely valuable.
5. Housing Employer-provided accommodation in Dubai saves AED 60,000-150,000/year in rent (depending on location and apartment size).
UAE vs. UK vs. USA: Real Salary Comparison
| Scenario | Gross Salary | Take-Home | Difference | |----------|-------------|-----------|------------| | UK salary £70,000 | £70,000 | ~£48,000 | — | | UAE equivalent (same lifestyle) | AED 220,000 | AED 220,000 | +£11,000/year | | USA salary $90,000 (NY) | $90,000 | ~$62,000 | — | | UAE equivalent | AED 248,000 | AED 248,000 | +$18,000/year |
The UAE premium is real — but offset by: no government pension, higher private school fees, and eventual repatriation costs.
